AAP doing ‘drama’ will not succeed in Gujarat: BJP leader

BJP leader CT Ravi said that the people of Gujarat are intelligent, they know that AAP is doing drama.

New Delhi:

After the latest political impasse for the assembly elections in Gujarat, the BJP on Thursday hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party over its state chief Gopal Italia’s recent remarks, triggering the saffron party’s reactions.

Mr Italia was detained by the Delhi Police after he was called by the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday.

A video from Italia had gone viral in which he can purportedly be heard telling women not to go to temples and ‘kathas’ (sermons by Hindu priests) as they are “centres of exploitation”. This comes days after he allegedly made casteist remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in another viral video.

BJP national general secretary CT Ravi said AAP has an old habit of pretending, however, the party will not succeed in Gujarat.

“It is your old habit to do drama. People of Gujarat are intelligent, they know that you are doing drama. They also know why Gopal Italia is doing all this. Gujaratis have always been with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And they will be in future too. No matter how much drama they do, they will be of no use in Gujarat. In Delhi, they got the benefit. Even during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, AAP had said that BJP is nervous. Mr Ravi said.

BJP leader Amit Malviya questioned the political drama after AAP workers protested outside NCW chief Rekha Sharma’s office in the national capital.

Malviya said that Shri Italia’s remarks have caused anger in every section of the Gujarat society.

“The question is, if NCW has summoned Italia over his remarks, why did he reach there with his supporters and anarchy was created? As far as his remarks are concerned, every section of the society of Gujarat The class has respect for its women. The kind of derogatory remarks Italia has made has angered every section of the society.”

Earlier on Thursday, AAP Gujarat unit chief Gopal Italia was detained by the Delhi Police from the National Commission for Women (NCW) office in the national capital.

The NCW chief summoned Italia for a controversial video in which she was purportedly seen using derogatory language for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sambit Patra slammed Mr Italia over his remarks.

Patra had said in a press conference, “To call the Prime Minister a lowly person is against the democratic rules of the country. It is an insult to the country. No matter what caste or religion, no person can be low.”

“An OBC prime minister coming from a backward class, who comes from a poor and ordinary family, repeatedly calls him down, what is this abuse? Does the Aam Aadmi Party want to call people from backward classes low? One Ordinary poor family and becoming prime minister is not inferior in democratic process. No, it is against democratic values.”

“Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal are the people who said that they have come to change the character of India. If a democratically elected influential and hardworking prime minister is called neech, and he is calling the PM neech in that video Not once, but somewhere it reflects the mindset of the Aam Aadmi Party,” he had said.
