AAP says BJP has again proved its incompetence in clean ranking, MCD denies

The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday said the posts secured by the erstwhile civic bodies of Delhi in the latest cleanliness survey has once again proved the BJP’s “incompetence” and demanded that municipal elections be held in the national capital at the earliest. Go. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) hit back saying that it categorically rejects the allegation that the ranking of corporations in the Swachh Survekshan 2022 has fallen as compared to the previous year.

AAP’s response comes a day after the annual cleanliness survey conducted by the Centre, ranked the erstwhile North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) in the bottom 10 out of 45 cities in the country. NDMC was ranked 37th, EDMC 34th and SDMC 28th in Swachh Survekshan 2022.

AAP’s MCD election in-charge Durgesh Pathak said Delhi’s rank in the Swachh Survekshan 2022 is a “shame”, adding that it has once again “proved the incompetence of the BJP, which has been ruling the MCD for 15 years”. Is”. He said, ‘BJP has once again put Delhi to shame. The BJP-ruled MCD has been rated as the worst in the cleanliness survey this year.

The erstwhile SDMC has secured 28th rank, which is three ranks better than last year’s position, EDMC has got 34th rank, which is an improvement of six ranks, and NDMC has secured 37th rank, MCD said in a statement. There is a significant improvement of eight ranks as compared to last year’s performance in the category of cities with population more than one million. In the last edition of the survey, NDMC was ranked 45th, EDMC 40th and SDMC 31st.

“Thus, to say that the rank of MCDs has fallen only in the last five-six years is not only a lie, but also defames the efforts made by individuals, RWAs/MTAs and civil society to make Delhi clean. ,” the civic body said. , Over the years, no effort has been made to cripple the city’s “civil corporations”, alleging that funds under various heads were not provided regularly.

Despite these difficulties, all erstwhile corporations have “improved their rankings over the previous year”, the MCD said. “We are happy to see the civic bodies climbing the ladder. Various initiatives taken by the three corporations, especially by the SDMC, have paid off till the time the three corporations are merged into one MCD. Next year, we would like to see ourselves among the top contenders,” a senior civic official had said after the results of the survey were announced on Saturday.

The three erstwhile municipal corporations were ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) until their amalgamation as the MCD in May. Pathak, MLA from Rajinder Nagar, alleged that the MCD under the saffron party has made the capital a hub of garbage and filth.

“Today, there is a problem of litter all over Delhi and people want to get rid of it. We demand that the MCD elections be held at the earliest. Pathak said that if voted to power, AAP will make Delhi the cleanest city.

Elections to reconstitute a new civic body are yet to be announced by the BJP-led Centre. However, with the hope of holding elections by the end of the year, AAP’s Delhi unit has intensified its preparations.

Keeping in mind the MCD elections, AAP recently launched a month-long campaign to corner the BJP on various civic issues, mainly cleanliness.
