While most breakouts heal on their own without leaving any significant scars, there are some that leave behind more noticeable scars.

We all dread the scars caused by acne. This occurs as a result of acne breakouts that are caused by excess oil production, bacteria, and inflammation. Inflammation is the result of our pigment-producing cells being overactive. Once you crack them, they not only leave a scar but also dark spots.

While hyperpigmentation is not permanent, it can be uncomfortable. While most breakouts heal on their own without leaving any significant scars, there are some that leave behind more noticeable scars.

non-inflammatory acne

Whiteheads and blackheads are considered non-inflammatory in nature. They do not cause breakouts and are not serious in nature.

Whiteheads: Whiteheads are medically known as closed comedones. They are small spots or bumps that usually do not cause scarring. The skin around a whitehead may appear tight or wrinkled, especially when the whitehead is large or particularly raised.

Blackheads: Blackheads, or open comedones, are small, dark bumps in appearance. Typically, the skin around a blackhead appears normal, while the center of the blackhead is darker. Blackheads are whiteheads that break open and spread due to exposure to air.

These problems can be easily treated with over-the-counter medicines and face washes. Choose products that contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and azelaic acid.

inflammatory acne

Papules: An acne papule is an inflamed blemish. It is also known as Pimple or Jit. It appears as a red bump that is slightly raised. An acne pimple often turns into a pimple filled with white or yellow pus. It is only at this point that a zit can be popped. Trying to pop a papule won’t work and will likely only make it worse and scar.

facial acne: Pimples are circular bumps filled with white or yellow pus. They can be painful at times and may force you to pop them. Pus is usually a combination of immune cells and bacterial cells collected in the blocked pore.
