States willing to contribute to country’s long-term commitment to net zero emissions: Housing Minister

Housing Minister Ch. Mr. Ranganadha Raju has said that the houses being built under the ‘Navaratnalu-Pedlandariki Illu’ (NPI) scheme will not only fulfill the dream of the poor to have their own homes, but will also contribute to the country’s commitment to reach zero greenhouse in the long run. . Mr Raju, in a virtual conference with the officials of the department, said that with a view to implement energy efficient measures under the NPI, it was proposed to provide energy efficient appliances in every household, an official release said.

“The estimated annual energy savings for 15 lakh households would be around 1,674 MUs, costing ₹539.7 crore,” the minister said.

Shri Raju asked the department to prepare a special action plan to achieve energy efficiency in 28.3 lakh households. He said that the state government wants to make the housing scheme a role model for the country.

“Andhra Pradesh is eager to contribute to India’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2070 by implementing energy efficiency measures in the country’s largest housing program in the state. This will also benefit the beneficiaries in the form of reduction in electricity bills,” said Mr. Raju.

“The housing project will also help in generating employment in the construction sector,” said Mr. Raju.

Special Chief Secretary (Housing) Ajay Jain said that the government has approved 15.6 lakh houses under PMAY-YSR Urban Scheme and PMAY-YSR Rural Scheme in the first phase and targeted to complete them by June 2022. He said construction of 10.72 lakh houses. Layouts had already started at 10,055.

He said that a special action plan would be prepared to create a facility for supply of energy efficient equipments on alternative basis.

Shri Ajay Jain said, “The government is planning to provide four LED bulbs, two tube lights, two energy efficient fans in each household.”

In the first phase, in coordination with the Department of Energy, the Housing Department will organize a training program on ‘Eco-Residence Code’ for 650 members of village and ward secretariats.
