Two drowned, two missing in separate incidents on RK Beach

Police say one victim was from Bhadrak in Odisha and the other from Hyderabad

Two people, including a woman, drowned while two others went missing in separate incidents on Sunday at RK Beach here.

According to Inspector Korada Rama Rao of Third Town Police Station, a woman named Sumitra Tripathi (21) who had visited Visakhapatnam with friends from Bhadrak, Odisha, had gone to swim on RK Beach. At around 2.15 pm, a strong current pulled him. The community guards on duty traced him and brought him to the shore. He was taken to King George Hospital where he died during treatment.

After about 15 to 20 minutes, the other three youths went swimming on the same beach, about 200 meters away. They also got hit by the strong current. The community guards managed to bring back a young man, Chau. Shiv Kumar (24) was taken to the shore and taken to KGH, where he died during treatment. The other missing persons identified as K Shiv Kumar and Aziz, aged around 25 years, are yet to be traced. Police said the three youths had come from Hyderabad along with five other friends.

Apart from the community guards, the police is also taking the help of Marine Police and Coast Guard to trace the remaining victims. No information was received about the missing youths till around 7 pm, the search operation is on. Police informed the victim’s family members about the incident. Police registered a case.
