Admission to central universities through CET, DU to conduct separate exams – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The education ministry has sent guidelines and communication to 45 central universities for admissions through the Common Entrance Test (CET).

For admission to Delhi University, however, a separate ‘Central University Entrance Examination Test’ will be conducted.

Under the current system, most of the universities prepare merit list on the basis of marks obtained in class 12. Students have to fill the admit card for different universities on different dates. When students do not get admission in their desired colleges, they tend to those colleges where seats are vacant.

According to the UGC, admission to central universities for the year 2022-2023 will be through CET, which will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Acting on the instructions of the Ministry of Education and the UGC, the Academic Council (AC) of DU has passed a proposal for admission through CET.

Before implementing the resolution passed by DU, it has to get approval from the executive council of the university.

The executive council of the university can take an important decision in this matter on December 17.

Delhi University Executive Council member Ashok Agarwal, however, is opposing the CET and is likely to oppose it in the scheduled meeting.

According to Agarwal, CET is being introduced without any preparation. It has many loopholes due to which poor students will have to face tough times. He said that this issue should be discussed and only then it should be implemented.

Professor Hansraj Suman, former member of Delhi University Academic Council, said that the university will conduct a separate CET.

Admission in DU will be done only through this test.

As per the rules laid down by DU, 50-50 percent weightage will be given to the marks obtained in class 12 and CET.

Hansraj Suman, who is also against this decision, said, for admission in DU, coaching centers will mushroom to qualify the wards in CET.

Suman said that poor people will be out of the system, the marks obtained in class 12th will not be of much use to them.

The UGC said that the CET for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in central universities will be conducted by the NTA for the academic session 2022-2023.

UGC said that NET score will be used for admission to Ph.
