Afghanistan: Imran bats for ‘inclusive’ government in talks with Taliban – Times of India

Islamabad: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for the establishment of an inclusive government in Afghanistan which provides representation to all ethnic groups in the war-torn country.
“After meetings with the leaders of Afghanistan’s neighbors in Dushanbe, and especially after a lengthy discussion with the President of Tajikistan emomali rahmoni, I have started a dialogue with Taliban For an inclusive Afghan government to include Tajiks, Hazara and Uzbeks,” Imran tweeted on Saturday. “After 40 years of conflict, this inclusiveness will ensure peace and a stable Afghanistan, which is in the interest of not only Afghanistan but also the region.”
Almost similar views were expressed by leaders of other countries at the recent 20th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of State (SCO-CHS) summit, in which economic cooperation among member states and the situation in Afghanistan were key themes.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who spoke via a video link, said the new provisional government could not be called representative or inclusive, “because we do not see representatives of other ethnic groups there, but believe that We need to work with it”.
Putin also criticized the withdrawal of United States-led forces from Afghanistan and urged SCO member states to talk about how to deal with the volatile situation there.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said it was necessary to “encourage Afghanistan to establish a broad-based and inclusive political framework” and “resolutely fight all forms of terrorism” so that it can live at peace with its neighbours.
His view was that Afghanistan should be directed to be more open and inclusive and to pursue liberal domestic and foreign policies.
Earlier this month, the Afghan Taliban announced a 33-member caretaker government without any non-Talibs or women. The interim set-up is mainly dominated by Pashtuns, who constitute less than half of Afghanistan’s population.
