While BJP held rallies in Himachal with PM Modi, Arvind Kejriwal is holding a roadshow with Punjab CM Mann… Congress will show how significant progress was made during Virbhadra’s rule in the state.

With the BJP ramping up its campaign all the way and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) down its neck, the Himachal Congress is now aiming to cash in on the legacy of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, not just at the end of the year. For choice but to stay on your way. To cover the cracks in his state unit.

The Himachal unit of the Congress on Thursday turned the 89th birth anniversary of late Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh into a show of unity, with leaders attending the program at the party headquarters in Shimla. The party had announced that it was celebrating this day as ‘Vikas Diwas’, trying to capitalize on the event to launch its campaign. It organized celebrations in all 72 blocks to pay tribute to its leader. The ceremony took place at the party office in the presence of senior leaders including Virbhadra’s wife Pratibha Singh and Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri and campaign committee chairman Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.

Rajeev Shukla, Rajya Sabha MP and in-charge of party affairs in Himachal, is holding a series of meetings with senior party leaders, legislators, office bearers and heads of all major organizations to prepare the party for the assembly elections due later this year. The party, realizing that it is lagging behind in running a full-fledged campaign, is now trying to catch up with the BJP and the AAP.

While BJP has already held a few rallies in the state with PM Modi, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is holding a roadshow to strengthen their party cadre. “Looks like we are slowly getting off the mark. And that is why perhaps the cadre can get energy from the legacy of our veteran and former CM,” admitted a Congress leader.

Congress is planning to raise the issue of unemployment, inflation and farmers’ interest. It will also try to show how the state had progressed on the development front during the government of Virbhadra Singh. The Congress high command had recently made Pratibha Singh, the wife of former CM, the chief of the state unit.
