After disbanding all-party fronts, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav launches statewide membership drive

Days after disbanding all fronts of the party, Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav Started the membership drive at the party headquarters in Lucknow on Tuesday. This campaign will be run in tehsils, regions and districts across the state.

The SP chief also said that he would reveal the number of new people joining the party.

Addressing a press conference at the SP headquarters in Lucknow on Tuesday, Yadav hit out at the Yogi government on “completion of 100 days”.

“The CM should speak about his achievements of five years and 100 days. Even today this government is cutting the ribbon of the projects completed by them. Samajwadi Party government. Whatever is being inaugurated is also incomplete,” Yadav said.

Taking a jibe at UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak without naming him, Yadav said, “Officers don’t listen to the Deputy CM. The recent transfers were made without consulting him. This is the Deputy CM who is known for his surprise raids. It seems as if someone is running the Yogi government from behind.

Attacking the Congress with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the SP chief further said: “When Congress was in Delhi, it used to put the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) behind the opposition. BJP is also on the same path. In Maharashtra they (BJP) accepted that there is an ED government. The ED government is also present in Madhya Pradesh and other states. BJP is misusing these institutions.

According to highly placed sources in SP, leaders from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and BJP can be given important responsibility, while leaders of Dalit, OBC and Muslim communities will also be given important posts. There is a plan to make room for Brahmin and Kayastha community leaders in the new working committee.

A spokesperson of the party said that this is a big step which is being linked to preparations for the 2024 parliamentary elections. According to sources, a new SP executive can be formed after the national convention of SP to be held in the last week of August or early September.
