After IT survey, think tank CPR said ‘did nothing wrong’

After two days of survey by the Income Tax Department, think tank Center for Policy Research (CPR) issued a statement on Friday saying it has not done anything wrong.

Noting that the IT department official visited his office on 7 and 8 September 2022 to conduct the survey of CPR, Chairman and CEO of CPR Yamini Iyer said in a statement, “We have completed the survey of the department during the survey. cooperated and will continue to do so in the future.”

“We hold ourselves to the highest standards of compliance and are confident that we have done nothing wrong. We are committed to working with the authorities to address any questions they may have. We are committed to policy making India is committed to its mission of providing rigorous research,” Iyer said.

Established in 1973, the Center for Policy Research is a non-profit, non-partisan independent institution known for examining government policy with a critical eye on CPR. It was once under the leadership of educationist Pratap Bhanu Mehta, who was a prominent critic of the current BJP government.

Sources claim that the survey was linked to allegations of breaches in foreign funding. The Income Tax Department has not yet given a formal statement.

A survey, unlike a search, is conducted only during business hours and does not include the residential premises of the persons involved and is seen as a process that is less extensive than a search.

During a visit, tax officials look at the physical and digital documents they can find and check whether the transactions have been fully incorporated by the entity in its financial statements.
