After Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan’s disappointing box office report, Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger is the last hope of the showrunners – Exclusive – Times of India

The trade fraternity of Bollywood is quite bullish about Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday’s Liger, which hits the theaters this week. Trade pundits are predicting that the Hindi version of the film may open between 10 crores and 15 crores this Friday. Trade analyst Girish Wankhede told ETimes, “Liger is going to get an opening which is going to be higher than the recent films of all our big stars except Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. If we count the number of Telugu versions, then the opening Could be Rs 30. – Crore on Day 1 and Rs 100 Crore in Opening Weekend. I am saying this because Vijay has done so because of grassroots activities, be it college or multiplexes, mall visits across the country. This one process that Aamir Khan Used to do it once. Liger is a silver lining that I can look forward to and get excited about in the days to come. We need larger-than-life cinema and here in Bollywood we have gone into the intellectual realm. We need to come out of this and enter the entertainment space and Liger seems to have everything that is needed.”

“Vijay Deverakonda is already a well-known face, most of his South films are dubbed and watched by Hindi speaking audiences on satellite channels and digital platforms. Also, the actor is working hard to reach the Hindi audience. Outreach programs they have organized to promote Liger,” said trade analyst Atul Mohan.

Mohan further added, “Since the trailer launch, Liger has created a good buzz among the business and public. Vijay is a sensation with the youth of the South and with Leger he is building a strong base in the North as well. South The advance bookings have started in the U.S. and almost all the shows are sold out in a matter of hours. This is a positive sign. Looking at the public response to Liger’s city tours, I think the film will make a big debut in the North as well. Maybe. A trailer and few songs have created tremendous anticipation and audience is asking for more.”

The exhibition sector, which has been battling the pressure of underperforming big-ticket Bollywood films recently, is pinning hopes on Liger this week. Exhibitor Akshay Rathi said, “It certainly looks like an exciting film and it has set the centers of mass on fire. I am not sure how India’s urban mentality will react to it. But at least The common denominator, the common man, should be adopted. And I hope it will be a rage among the audience.”

When it comes to the commercial prospects of Liger in Hindi, Rathi has kept his expectations in check. He said, “It is difficult to put a number, but in Hindi the minimum should be 5 crores. In Telugu, it will go ballistic. I am saying minimum 5 crores for a Hindi release. We had expectations. From such big-ticket films and their In comparison to performance, I would prefer to be conservative and surprised rather than optimistic and disappointed.”

Rathi also revealed that the theater owners are praying for the hit. “We keep theaters open despite suffering losses because of hope. Hope is the only thing that still keeps a lot of people in business,” he said.

Rathi feels Vijay Deverakonda is hardly a pan-India actor, as he is making his national debut with Leger in Hindi. But Rathi hopes that the film’s veteran director Puri Jagannadh can be a factor in the film’s success. He said, “The expectation lies with director Puri Jagannadh’s sensibility and his understanding of the audience at large. The one person I count on in this film is Puri Jagannath. Vijay Deverakonda aims to be a pan-India star. , which I’ I am glad. And it should be the same for all stars. I am glad to see that Ranbir Kapoor did a roadshow in Vijayawada and campaigned in Hyderabad for Brahmastra. This cross-pollination of talent is among the stars. It’s very important because right now the entire country is in the market. I am glad that Vijay Deverakonda wishes to do the same with Liger. Hopefully, he will become a pan-India star after this release.”
