After removing the discrepancies in the voter list, conduct elections for Narasaraopet municipal body: High Court

The court was told that the concerned officials released the voter list by including some voters of other gram panchayats.

Justice Chikati Manvendranath Roy of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday ordered that the State Election Commission (SEC) should rectify the mistakes in the electoral rolls in Narasaraopet municipality within three weeks and conduct the elections only after completing that process.

Justice Roy Narasaraopet K.R. Lakshmi Narayan, who alleged that parts of five gram panchayats (Ravipadu, Lingamaguntla, Elmanda, Kesanupally and Issapalem) were amalgamated into Narasaraopet municipality in an unscientific manner.

Petitioner’s counsel N. Srinivasa Rao informed the court that the concerned authorities issued electoral rolls by including some voters of other gram panchayats for a purpose and this is in violation of the Conduct of Rules, 1961, Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act 1994 and Articles. 14, 19 and 21 of the Constitution.
