Security has been beefed up at two major railway stations – Guntur and Nallapadu in view of the violent protests against Agneepath Scheme in many parts of India. Local police personnel were also deployed at the Army Recruiting Office (ARO) in Syamala Nagar and all roads leading to it have been closed. Security has also been tightened in the BJP office.

Police also took preventive custody of some army recruitment candidates in Guntur. Police sources said around 150 people were detained from Nallapadu, Nagarampalem, Tadepalli and Kothapet, most of them aspiring to join the Army.

Police DIG Trivikram Verma and Superintendent of Police K. Arif Hafeez took stock of the situation at the railway station on Friday evening.

Additional forces were deployed at the entrance of the railway station at Kothapet. Divisional Railway Manager R. Mohana Raja also visited the railway station and is monitoring the situation.

ARO is the nodal center for the recruitment of Army personnel. There is a recruitment enrollment drive every six months. In June 2021, more than 35,000 youths participated in the recruitment rally including physical fitness test at Brahmananda Reddy Stadium.

Mr Hafeez said security has been beefed up at all important government installations in view of the intelligence alert.
