The latest order by the DEO asked all school headmasters to conduct the survey and upload the report on the Child Tracking System (CTS) of the state government.

The District Education Officer (DEO) of Ahmedabad city has directed schools to conduct a survey of students who have dropped out of classes 9 to 12. The February 5 order of the DEO states that the survey report needs to be submitted in five days. The DEO had earlier requested the schools to conduct the survey, but the school administration failed to comply with the order, according to The Times of India India Report. So now the DEO has issued a strict order for this.

Sources say that the dropout rate is high in primary and higher secondary schools. The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) department has been asking city schools for years to find out the number of children enrolled in school and the reason behind it. However, there has been no progress in the matter, the news report added. The SSA department had ordered a statewide survey to enable the state government to find out ways to bring these children back to schools under the Right. Education Act 2009 (RTE).
