“AI has stopped extending credit facility on account of purchase of air tickets. Therefore, all the Ministries/Departments are directed to clear the AI ​​dues immediately. Air tickets from AI can be purchased in cash until further instructions,” said the memorandum issued by FinMin’s Department of Expenditure on Wednesday.
Members of Parliament are entitled to several air tickets each year, which until now were mostly on AI.
A senior aviation ministry official had recently told TOI: “AI used to bill for these tickets. Now we can make it an open system where MPs can choose the most suitable flight for themselves. The money that the government will give till now to pay the state-owned AI on this account will go to the airlines chosen by the lawmakers. ”
