Issuing another alert for post-COVID symptoms, an AIIMS Delhi official informed that some of the symptoms of the disease can be extremely severe like brain attack or stroke in the arteries etc.

After covid, complications can develop in the brain, there are immediate acute conditions such as brain attack or stroke in the arteries/veins, swelling of the brain. Research is underway and as of now, there is no black and white picture, Prof P Srivastava, Head of Department of Neurology, AIIMS Delhi told the news agency ANI,

This comes at a time when a new study has revealed that more than 144 million people across the world are affected by the long COVID. And about 10-20% of the people who were infected with the coronavirus actually experience prolonged COVID symptoms.

This means that 4% of people infected with the virus may have a long covid, although it could be even higher because many people do not get tested for covid-19.

The team of Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation has done this study by collecting data for 2021-22.

What is Long COVID?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), chronic COVID-19 is the occurrence of new, returning or ongoing health problems 4 or more weeks after the initial infection with COVID-19. It is also known by other names, including post-acute COVID, post-COVID conditions, and chronic COVID.

What are the most common symptoms for prolonged COVID?

Some common symptoms of prolonged COVID are fever, fatigue, breathlessness, cough, chest pain, brain fog, sleep problems, muscle pain, rapid heartbeat, loss of smell or taste, depression or anxiety.

The WHO has previously notified that the disease can cause serious disorders such as vasculitis, cardiovascular and neurological diseases.

What are the treatments?

If you are suffering from these syndromes for a long time then you must consult a doctor immediately, he may prescribe you some medicines and ask you to do some light exercises to reduce stiffness in joints and muscles.

Even if there is pain, do not sit silently, it will make things worse. Plan your day carefully and engage in some moderate activities.
