Air India Express employees locked inside Madurai airport

The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industries has demanded the Union Home Ministry to probe an incident in which some officers and employees of Air India Express were allegedly locked inside the Madurai airport on Tuesday night after CISF personnel nearly broke down. Mr Jegatheesan alleged that the flight’s scheduled departure from the Madurai airport was at 9.35 pm, while the CISF personnel had locked the doors of the airport’s terminal building only at 9.30 pm.

“Around 20 employees of Air India Express could not leave the terminal building after their work. It was only after the issue was taken up with the airport director, that the CISF personnel opened the doors. The staff remained stranded for almost an hour late at night,” Mr. Jegatheeson said.

The current timing of the Madurai-Singapore flight is ideal not only for passengers, but also for export of perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables and flowers, the statement said, adding that 5,259 kg of cargo on Tuesday alone was exported.

Stating that the CISF personnel had refused to cooperate for the operation of the flight, claiming that they had no order for the same from the Union Home Ministry, the Chamber wanted the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Union Home Ministry to be uninterrupted.
