Pollution levels remained high in the city even on the last day of Diwali, as many people blew up their last stock of firecrackers. Till Wednesday evening, there was a significant increase in particulate matter (PM) 2.5 and 10 at most of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) stations. The pollutants were found in large quantities in the southern parts of the city.

The average PM 2.5 in Hebbal at 8 pm on Wednesday was 184 micrograms per cubic meter while it was 108 micrograms in Hombegowdanagar. In Jayanagar 5th block, from 167 micrograms the previous night, it shot up to 218, leading to poor air quality. Whereas PM 2.5 in silk board was at 239 micrograms while PM 10 was at 252 micrograms. Here too the number had increased from Tuesday night itself. The numbers had also increased at other stations including Peenya and Hebbal.

After the festival, on Thursday morning, while the PM level had come down at most stations, the numbers were still more than 100 at some places. In Jayanagar, PM 2.5 was 143 micrograms, while in Silk Board, PM 10 was 172 micrograms and the air quality was reported as moderate at both the places. However, in Bapujinagar, the air quality was still poor due to PM 2.5 of 223 micrograms.
