Akhilesh asked why BJP is delaying the inclusion of ‘uncle’, Shivpal said ‘childish and irresponsible’

The rift between Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Yadav is increasing. The SP leader on Wednesday said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party wants to take his “uncle” then it should not delay it. Shivpal responded by calling his nephew’s statement “irresponsible and childish”.

SP President and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav Were at a condolence meeting in Etawah on Wednesday. His uncle and Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) chief Shivpal Yadav also reached there barely 10 minutes away. Though the two leaders did not come face to face, they took a dig at each other.

“I have no problem with uncle ji (Shivpal), but BJP should explain why it is so happy about him. Why are BJP leaders thinking so much about taking him? Why are BJP people delaying in taking Chacha ji? You should think about what could be the reason behind this,” Akhilesh told the media.

Shivpal had recently contested in the UP assembly elections from Jaswantnagar seat on the symbol of Samajwadi Party. He won, though the SP-led alliance lost the election to the BJP-led alliance.

Sources say that after the election results, Shivpal was feeling a bit isolated in the SP and since then there are speculations about his growing closeness to the BJP. Discussions of him joining the saffron party had intensified after a meeting on Twitter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi between him and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the then PSPL leader.

However, Shivpal, who reached the condolence meeting shortly after Akhilesh’s departure, told the media, ‘I am one of the 111 MLAs of the Samajwadi Party who won in the recent assembly elections. If he (Akhilesh) wants to send me to BJP, he should throw me out of the party. The statement is irresponsible and childish. I will inform the media about my decision at an appropriate time.”

On 22 April, Shivpal Yadav went to Sitapur jail to meet jailed SP MP Azam Khan and said that Akhilesh Yadav could have done a lot more for the Lok Sabha MP. The meeting lasted for about 50 minutes.

“UP CM is a saint and soft hearted,” Shivpali Said later. “I will meet him and request help for Azam Khan. Samajwadi Party did nothing for a senior leader like him. Ideally, the SP chief should have sat on a ‘dharna’ in the Lok Sabha along with Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh’s father and Shivpal’s brother) and other opposition parties. PM Modi respects Netaji and he certainly would have taken cognizance of this issue.

The PSPL chief also spoke in favor of Uniform Civil Code a few days back. After this he went to meet CM Adityanath at his official residence in Lucknow.
