Amid speculation of dissidence and infighting within the party, former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday said a certain influence of “outsiders” was hampering the state BJP unit.
Talking to the media at his residence in Agartala, Biplab Dev said, ‘People with infiltrator mentality are putting ‘outside influence’ on the party and this is tarnishing the party’s image. I believe in the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. I have conveyed this to the senior leadership of the party. ,
He said, ‘I will continue to do any work given to me by the party under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. This is the second term of the BJP government in Tripura and we have already worked for the party since the state was freed from communist rule.”
While the former chief minister refrained from talking explicitly on the said ‘outside force’ or naming anyone, he said, “Everyone knows who is influencing from outside and why. This may affect the party organization in Tripura.” I am not a bureaucrat, but I should present it at the right place.”
“The party does not belong to one person. Most of the state leaders have worked with me. They haven’t come from anywhere else. But he has to understand how to work in the party.”
In this regard, State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya said, ‘We have taken cognizance of what Biplab has said. We’ll talk with him. We will discuss on this. The intention will always be to work together as a strong party.”
Former Chief Minister Biplab Dev also hinted that there is some dissension and dissension happening in the Tripura BJP and all may not be well within the party unit in the state.
