All women contingents likely to march on next Republic Day duty path

An all-women marching and band contingent could be seen during the 2024 Republic Day parade in New Delhi as officials are working on a proposal to have such a ceremony on the line of duty, reported PTI.

Earlier in March, the Defense Ministry had circulated an office memorandum on the plan for the 2024 parade to the three services and various ministries and departments.

PTI quoted sources as saying that a ‘de-briefing meeting’ was also held in early February under the chairmanship of the Defense Secretary.

The memorandum states that in the Republic Day Parade 2024, there will be only women participants in the contingents (march and band), tableaux and other displays during the parade on the duty path.

Over the years, some all-women contingents, and women officers, including major military contingents comprising men, have participated in the annual parade at Rajpath (now Duty Path).

With ‘women power’ being a major theme, India showcased its military might and vibrant cultural heritage during the 74th Republic Day parade this year.

A woman officer along with three additional male officers led the marching contingent of 144 air warriors of the Indian Air Force in the 2023 parade.

For the first time, the Indian Army has recently inducted five women officers in its artillery regiment.
