All you need to know about the common symptoms of coronary artery disease

Coronary artery disease (CAD) usually does not show symptoms until it has reached an advanced stage. Dizziness, dyspnea-like sensations, fatigue and lack of energy are examples of subtle symptoms of CAD. Shortness of breath and chest discomfort are the two major symptoms of this disease. These can cause a heart attack, and you should seek medical help immediately if you experience any of these. In general, the symptoms of CAD are associated with narrowing of the arteries of the heart, which can sometimes prevent the heart muscle from receiving enough blood.

Here are some of the most common symptoms of coronary artery disease:

  1. chest pain (angina)
You may have pressure or tightness in your chest. Some may even feel that someone is standing on their chest. Chest discomfort is most commonly felt in the middle or left side of the chest. Angina can be triggered by physical activity or emotional stress. The pain usually subsides within minutes. Some people, especially women, may have brief or severe pain in the neck, arms, or back followed by chest pain.
  2. difficulty breathing
If there is insufficient blood flow to the coronary arteries, you may feel like you can’t hold your breath, can’t get enough air, or can’t breathe at all. This sensation is commonly referred to as dyspnea. It is more likely to arise or worsen in the presence of physical or emotional stress. Shortness of breath isn’t always visible, and it can make you feel like you lack energy or stamina.
  3. heart attack
A heart attack is caused by a completely clogged coronary artery. Chest pain or pressure, shoulder or arm pain, shortness of breath and sweating are all classic signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Women may experience less common symptoms such as neck or jaw pain, nausea and fatigue.
  4. Dizziness / Dizziness
If you have CAD, you may feel dizzy or lightheaded on and off. It is more likely to occur in combination with physical effort, but it can happen at any moment.
  5. lack of power
CAD can cause frequent or sudden fatigue along with a lack of energy. If you have additional CAD symptoms, this is a more alarming warning sign, although it may be the only symptom.
