The Uttar Pradesh government canceled the allotment of 72 industrial plots to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) minister Rakesh Sachan on February 21, amid allegations from the opposition that all the plots were lying unutilized without any lease deeds . Not a single rupee has been paid against these plots since 2012. On the report of the two-member inquiry committee, the state industries department ordered cancellation of allotment of these industrial plots located in Fatehpur industrial area of Fatehpur district.

The department is also planning to initiate action against the officials who allotted these industrial plots on a large scale. 32 plots were allotted in Mini Industrial Asthan Chakrata and 40 in Saduapur. The Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDC) had 367 plots in the industrial area of Fatehpur, out of which 72 plots were allotted to Shri Sachan, the then Lok Sabha MP of two educational institutions. The revelation came when the state government identified vacant plots at the recently concluded Global Investors Summit (GIS) 2023.
