Almost love with DJ Mohabbat has no plan, no purpose. Anurag Kashyap is to blame

aafter the success of Dev D And wishes In 2009 and 2018, director Anurag Kashyap is back with another romantic drama, Almost In Love With Dj Mohabbat, But like the previous two films, his latest is a half-baked mix of themes plucked from Gen Z life.

Firstly, the clunky title of the film raises some hope given Kashyap’s edgy and provocative cinema. But this is not your standard Kashyap film. Perhaps, the director wants to break free from his image of making experimental cinema. but Almost In Love With Dj Mohabbat In his filmography would not stand out.

The film centers around two couples, both played by Alaya F and debutant Karan Mehta – one in London and the other in Dalhousie, India. The two couples are bound by differences of religion and class and wrestle with similar themes of patriarchy and bigotry. The film offers some beautiful moments while depicting the current divisive times, but rarely does it dig its teeth deep enough to explore the messiness of human relationships.

Strong performance failed from screenplay

,Only love will bring revolution (Only love will bring revolution),” Kashyap said in his recent Tweet. His portrayal of real men and women on screen has also been revolutionary and provides an alternative to the unrealistic portrayal of rosy romances. Social inequality, love jihad, same-sex marriage, caste – all these themes are present in this Almost In Love With Dj MohabbatBut none have been explored enough to make a huge impact.

There are two parallel running stories involving DJ Mohabbat played by Vicky Kaushal. He reiterates the essence of his DJ Sandz wishes and recreates it here. But beyond the resemblance, the role is largely forgettable.

While this is easily Alaya’s strongest performance till date, Mehta has also managed to make a promising start. Alaya channels Gen Z’s honest vulnerability quite convincingly. If nothing else, this film will surely serve as a defining moment in his budding career. In some frames, Mehta bears an uncanny resemblance to a young Ranveer Singh, but only time will tell whether the actor can emulate his senior’s career trajectory.

Another standout in the film is Amit Trivedi’s music – which is not that impressive wishes – But revolution with love And pouring connection Active and attractive.

What really pulls the film back is Anurag Kashyap himself. The screenplay written by him falters without leaving any lasting impression. Undoubtedly, he has the instinct and talent to cross the boundaries, but this time he missed.

At one point, Alaya’s character says, “There is no plan, and there is no purpose”. After watching this 121-minute film, you will not be able to live without feeling emotions.
