Amarinder Singh opens his party office in Chandigarh

The former Punjab CM said that his new Punjab Lok Congress, with the outfit of former Akali leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, would form the next government in the state.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday opened his new party office here and said his Punjab Lok Congress, along with the organization of the BJP and former Akali leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, would form the next government in the state.

Mr. Singh Left Congress and started his own Punjab Lok Congress After his unofficial exit as the Chief Minister of Punjab in September.

Addressing the media after opening the party office, Mr. Singh said that the membership drive of his organization has started.

“We have full hope that we will win the upcoming elections…with seat adjustments with BJP and Dhindsa sahib, we will form the next government,” Singh said.

Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah had said on Saturday that the BJP was in talks for an alliance with Singh and Dhindsa for the assembly elections to be held early next year.

When asked when he would meet BJP President JP Nadda over seat-sharing, Mr Singh said that an in-principle decision has been taken on the alliance. “Now it is only seat adjustment. For seat adjustment, we will go and I cannot tell you the number (of seats each party will contest),” he said.

He said he would request both the BJP and Mr. Dhindsa’s Shiromani Akali Dal (United) to choose a “winner (winnable candidate)”.

He said, “If Dhindsa’s party fields a winning candidate (from a particular constituency), I will support him and BJP will also support him, I am sure. If the BJP candidate is a winning candidate, we will support him.” “

“Everyone has the same objective, that is to win Punjab and we will win it,” he said.
