‘Amarnath Yatra became a political issue’, Mehbooba Mufti targets BJP

New DelhiPDP chief Mehbooba Mufti slammed the BJP-led government for not being allowed to visit the ‘martyr graveyard’ along with other political leaders. Responding to this, Mehbooba said, ‘We have never seen such an atmosphere and situation in Jammu and Kashmir, I am sure no one has seen it after independence in 1947. Government is using NIA, ED and CBI to harass the people of J&K. ,

Mehbooba Mufti questioned the government’s arrangement for Amarnath Yatra. He said that the government has made Amarnath Yatra a political agenda.

He further added, “Amarnath Yatra is a message of happiness for all of us. When we were kids we used to wait for it. The yatra has now become a problem for the local people and also for the pilgrims.”

“It used to be a great way of brotherhood among communities. BJP has made it a political issue as if they have to win J&K. It has become such a big problem for the people living in South Kashmir.” Mehbooba said.

Mehbooba blamed the administration for what happened after the cloudburst in the holy cave. He alleged that the casualties were much higher as per the reports of the government.

Mehbooba said, “They have called thousands of pilgrims this year for the yatra, and when the cloud burst they could not handle the crowd. Now, they are not giving all the details. They are saying that 15-16 were killed, But many people are missing. The way motorcycles, dead horses are coming out of the rubble, and many people are still missing, it seems that the damage is much bigger than what they are saying.”

He said, “It’s all because of their arrogance.”

The Mufti also claimed that the ruling party does not consider Jammu and Kashmir to be a party of India and thinks they are ‘part of the neighboring country’.

“They don’t consider the accession we have signed with India, but they are implementing “ghar mein gus kar maro” as they claimed they did in the Balakot strike. But we don’t give up. Can agree. If we don’t fight for our rights, our identity will be lost.”

Mehbooba Mufti said, “There is power in the youth of this place, and to suppress it, they have kept 10 lakh troops here. There are only 100-150 boys who have picked up the gun, it is said. Then what are they afraid of.
