Chennai/Salem: DVAC officials begin searches at 57 locations of former AIADMK minister KP Ambalagan, his relatives and supporters in Chennai, Salem and Dharmapuri districts on Thursday morning.
The residence and other premises of AIADMK MLA A Govindasamy were also searched.
DVAC started the search after M Krishnamurthy filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the agency to initiate investigation on the basis of his plea.
Krishnamurthy alleged that Anbalagan, a former higher education minister of AIADMK, acquired assets in his name and in the name of his family members including wife A Mallika, sons Shashimohan and Chandrasekaran, daughter-in-law Vaishnavi and others, disproportionate to their known sources of income. Meanwhile, DVAC ordered an inquiry and based on the information received, a case was registered against Ambalagan, Mallika, Shashimohan, Chandrasekaran and Vaishnavi.
A senior DVAC official told TOI, “The allegation against Anbalagan is that he has amassed assets worth around Rs 11 crore in his own name and in the name of his family members and others, from his known sources of income. is more.”
“Following the registration of the case, searches are being conducted at 57 places in Chennai, Dharmapuri and Salem districts on Thursday,” a DVAC official said.
