The Income Tax Department on Tuesday conducted searches at the Delhi office of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) located at HT House building, KG Marg. This action of the Income Tax Department has come in the midst of a huge controversy over a BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Notably, hours before the raid, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had criticized a BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots. Shah had said, “Despite thousands of conspiracies, the truth comes out. They have been following Modi since 2002. But every time Modi ji comes forward stronger.

According to sources, the Income Tax team has reached for verification of some documents.

On 21 January, the government issued instructions to block several YouTube videos and Twitter posts sharing links to the controversial documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots.

On February 3, the Supreme Court had also directed the central government to produce the original records relating to its decision to block the BBC documentary.
