Amid COVID restrictions, doctors not allowed to assemble, yet say protests will continue

After several days of protest, a delegation of resident doctors met Union Health Minister Mansukh Madaviya on Tuesday. The ministry assured to expedite the process by forming a three-member committee to submit the documents and the government’s stand in the Supreme Court where the matter is pending.

The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) satisfied after meeting Madhavia, who called for the strike and protest for the first time. He tried to convince the protesting doctors that the minister had also expressed regret about the police brutality and assurances in the public domain, but the latter was not convinced.

Another meeting was held between various doctors associations including FORDA, FIMA and RDA but a collective call was given to continue the protest as no exact date was given for NEET PG counseling 2021 and the FIR lodged against doctors was also not returned. was taken.

Meanwhile, the GRAP was announced in the capital city following a rise in the number of COVID cases and an increase in the positivity rate. Large gatherings have been banned in Delhi amid rising cases. Police personnel gathered outside the resident doctor’s hostel to prevent them from being allowed to assemble or to protest.

“Protesters are not allowed as per the COVID guidelines. I have informed the doctors about this that Yellow Alert has been implemented. It’s not about inside or outside the hospital, it’s about gatherings that are not allowed. I am sure the doctor will follow the guidelines. If not, we will explain them again otherwise legal action will be taken against the doctors.”

Speaking to News18, Dr Manish, President, FORDA said that he is finding it very challenging to continue the protests in view of the COVID restrictions in place. A collective call will be made soon but we want the FIR to be withdrawn and demand an apology from Delhi Police for its behaviour.
