Amidst cloud of discontent over party, Sukhbir Badal announces major structural changes in Akali Dal

Announced the establishment of a new organizational structure. To be overseen by a newly formed central election body.

Structural changes are aimed at giving more space to youth, women as well as other sections of the society. Badal announced to reserve fifty percent seats for party workers below the age of fifty in the upcoming assembly elections.

“The changes will be effective at the highest level of decision-making in the party – the core committee – too. Told.

He also announced that the party would now follow the principle of “one family, one ticket”. He said that if the government is formed, party workers will be given the presidency at both the district and state levels and the family members of MPs and MLAs will not be considered for these posts.

“The aim is to give maximum opportunities to the workers and prepare them as leaders of the next generation,” Badal said. He also announced that from now on the district president will not contest elections.

He said the elections for the new organizational structure would be completed by November 30 under the supervision of the central election body. According to Badal, 117 observers will be appointed to oversee the entire exercise in all the constituencies of the state.

“The focus will be on the creation of booth committees that will choose the booth president. The latter will elect circle presidents who in turn will elect district presidents,” he revealed.

Badal said that YAD and SOI will be reconstituted and Sikh Students Union will be revived. He said the upper age limit for YAD members would be 35 years with a relaxation of five years for the chairman. Similarly, he said, the upper age limit for SOI and SSF members would be thirty years and only students would be enrolled in these organisations.

He also announced that from now on all the Sikh office bearers of the party will have to become Amritdhari.

The new changes also include the creation of a parliamentary board that will examine ways and means to attract the best talent to the party as well as suggest the best candidates for the assembly elections. Badal announced that a disciplinary board has already been formed under the chairmanship of Sikandar Singh Maluka and appealed to the party workers to air their differences on appropriate party forums and not go to the media.

Sukhbir Badal is facing discontent within the party rank and file after a disastrous performance in elections and structural changes aimed at extinguishing the fire of rebellion.
