Amidst constant tussle, Congress calls meeting of Punjab MLAs on Saturday

The announcement came at a time when at least 40 MLAs wrote to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, demanding a CLP meeting to chalk out a strategy for the assembly elections.

Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat created a stir in the political circles late on Friday night and announced that a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party would be held at the PPCC headquarters in Chandigarh on Saturday.

Interestingly, Rawat made the announcement on microblogging site Twitter. “AICC has received a representation from a large number of MLAs of Congress party, requesting to convene an immediate meeting of Congress Legislature Party of Punjab. Under this, a meeting of CLP has been called on September 18 at 5 pm in the office of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.

Rawat said that the AICC has directed the PPCC to facilitate the meeting. “All Congress MLAs of Punjab are requested to kindly attend this meeting,” Rawat said. Minutes later, the Punjab Congress chief also took to Twitter to share details of the meeting. “As per the instructions of AICC, a meeting of Congress Legislature Party has been called at PPCC office.”

Though the agenda of the CLP was not known, it comes a day after at least 40 MLAs wrote to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, at a meeting of the CLP to chalk out a strategy for the upcoming assembly elections to be held in early 2022. was demanded. Sources said that the MLAs also informed the President through a letter that they would discuss the 18-point agenda of the party high command given to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Captain Camp was yet to react to the developments late in the night.

Sources said that apart from Harish Rawat, two party observers from Delhi Harish Choudhary and Ajay Maken are expected to attend the meeting. Chaudhary is a confidante of Rahul Gandhi and a minister in the Rajasthan cabinet.
