Amidst the Scindia-Vijayvargiya bonhomie, two ministers of the MP vented anger on the bureaucracy

Two Madhya Pradesh ministers close to Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia have publicly expressed their grievances about the functioning of the state’s bureaucracy, embarrassing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. His wrath comes at a time when there is talk in the political circles of the state about the growing friendship between Scindia and party general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, a powerful leader often seen as a rival to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Madhya Pradesh Public Health Minister Brijendra Singh Yadav has written a letter to the commissioner of state cooperative societies as well as the local collector, demanding action against an officer for alleged irregularities in appointments in Ashok Nagar district. Yadav, who is an MLA from Mungawali in Ashok Nagar, is reportedly unhappy with the collector and in his letter has demanded a probe by the deputy collector into these alleged irregular appointments. Despite repeated attempts, Yadav could not be contacted.

His letter comes a day after Madhya Pradesh Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Mahendra Singh Sisodia publicly vented his anger about the state’s top bureaucrat. Speaking to a media outlet in Guna, Sisodia said the administration was running “autocratic” (amok) and blamed Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains for it.

Sisodia also expressed anguish over the transfer of some inspectors by the Shivpuri superintendent of police without his approval. Sisodia is the guardian minister of the district. However, on Friday, Sisodia said that he has no complaints now after meeting CM Chouhan, adding that “all is normal now and there is no point in talking about the issue”.

Yadav and Sisodia were among 22 MLAs who joined the BJP in March 2020, which toppled the Congress’ Kamal Nath government. Scindia too soon joined the BJP and was made the Union Minister for Civil Aviation. Meanwhile, at a function in Indore on Saturday, Scindia got off the stage after seeing Vijayvargiya sitting in the first row and took his hand and brought him to the stage.

On 22 August, Scindia met Vijayvargiya at his residence in Indore.
