Amit Shah discusses threats from global terrorist groups in high level meeting

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday reviewed the country’s current security situation and emerging challenges, including threats from global terror outfits, illegal use of cyberspace and “movement of foreign terrorist fighters”.

This was the first such high-level meeting, chaired by Mr Shah and attended by top officials of the country’s security and intelligence system, in the new year.

“Hon’ble Union Home Minister held a high level security meeting today to review the current threat scenario and emerging security challenges in the country,” an official statement said.

He highlighted the continuing threats of terrorism and global terror groups, terror financing, narco-terrorism, organized crime-terrorism nexus, illegal use of cyber space, movement of foreign terrorist fighters. The Home Minister stressed the need for better coordination and coordination between the Central and State security agencies to counter the ever-changing terrorism and security challenges.

Heads of the country’s security agencies, major central intelligence agencies, the Central Armed Police Forces, the intelligence wing of the armed forces, revenue and financial intelligence agencies participated in the meeting, the statement said.

The DGPs of the states and union territories also attended the meeting through video conferencing.
