Amit Shah’s ‘Gupkar Model’ dig at Abdullah and Mufti Mehbooba, Omar hit back on Twitter

At a mega rally in Jammu and Kashmir, his first in three years after the abrogation of Article 370, Union Home Minister Amit Shah signaled the start of assembly elections, spoke on ending terrorism, no relationship with Pakistan. Apart from not talking, he got backlash from the former ruling dynasties, Abdullah and Mufti, who targeted Kashmir.

Shah said in a public meeting in Baramulla that as soon as the work of amendment in the voter list is completed, elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir. “I want to tell you that you will be electing your representatives very soon and for that the delimitation was very important. Previous governments never did fair delimitation because they wanted to remain in power,” he said, drawing applause from supporters.

In an indirect reference to regional organizations such as the People’s Democratic Party and the National Conference, Shah mocked those advocating talks with Pakistan. “Why should we talk to Pakistan? I will talk to the youth of Kashmir through peace and development and by ushering in a free and fair democracy. He said terrorism has never done anyone any good and it needs to be defeated at all costs.

Shah launched a scathing attack on Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, saying that both their families never worked for the poor and actually deposited money for their welfare.

“Abdullah & Sons & Mufti & Co. is responsible for the killing of 42,000 people in J&K. They did politics for the benefit of their families and left the poor masses high and dry,” he said.

The Home Minister said that there are two models- Modi model and Gupkar model. He said the Modi model focused on development, democracy and peace, while the Gupkar model led to Pulwama (explosion), terrorism, murder and stones and guns in the hands of the youth. “Modi brought industries, mobiles and laptops instead of guns and stones,” Shah said.

He said that Baramulla was once a hotbed of terrorism and today it has become a center of tourism. “The valley, which used to have 6 lakh tourists annually, has received 22 lakh tourists in the first nine months. Four lakh tourists came to Gulmarg alone,” the minister said.

He said that under the leadership of PM Modi, major infrastructure projects like road and rail connectivity, bridges, stadiums, shelters and hospitals have been built and work on many is underway.

Both Mehbooba and Umar reacted to the Home Minister’s criticism. Mufti took to Twitter and said that his father, who was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir for three and a half years, does not need recognition from anyone.

Mehbooba and Omar Abdullah also interacted with the police on Twitter over the killing of a youth in an alleged accidental fire by an arrested policeman.

Mehbooba also crossed virtual swords with the Srinagar Police over her claim of not being allowed to attend the wedding of a supporter in Pattan area of Baramulla.

The National Conference sought a day’s time to list the progress card of the years of its rule in Jammu and Kashmir after Shah accused the party of doing little precious work for the welfare of the people.

A party spokesperson tweeted, “We are grateful to @HMOIndia @AmitShah ji for challenging Dr. Farooq SB for the contribution of jknc_ in the development of J&K. Since the list is quite extensive, please expect our response tomorrow.”

Shah had earlier said that in the last 70 years the two dynasties had little to do on the development front and Modi was actually far ahead in comparison. He said the Modi government has invested Rs 56,000 crore in Kashmir to build industries, while the regional parties have done literally nothing.
