The Public Works Department (PWD) on Thursday issued a flood warning to people living on the banks of the Amaravati river as the dam was expected to reach its full capacity.

A PWD official of Amravati Basin No 3, Amravatinagar said in a press release that the water level has reached 82 feet at 1 pm on Thursday. As heavy rains continue in the Amaravati catchment areas, the dam will soon reach its full capacity (90 ft). The water inflow into the dam on Thursday is 12,500 cusecs. The PWD official said that when the dam reaches 85 feet, the shutters of the dam would be opened to release the excess water.

He also said that the Public Works Department would coordinate with the District Disaster Management Authority. He said that all frontline workers have been alerted and necessary arrangements have been made.
