Mr Mahindra’s post comes as former UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak officially joined the race to become the UK’s next prime minister. He is among eight candidates making the initial shortlist in the race to replace Boris Johnson as leader of the Conservative Party and British prime minister at the close of the nomination on Tuesday evening.

Mr Sunak told The Telegraph that if he becomes the next prime minister of the United Kingdom, he will handle the economy like former Conservative prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

“We will cut taxes and we will do it responsibly. This is my economic view. I would describe it as common sense Thatcherism. I believe that is what he would have done,” Mr. Sunak told the newspaper. .

Mr Sunak, 42, and another minister resigned last week in protest of Johnson’s scandal-hit administration, prompting a wave of government resignations that forced him to step down as Conservative leader.
