Andhra Assembly resolution to ask Center for Backward Classes Census

The cabinet approved to extend the ban on Maoists and other similar organizations for one more year (File)

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Thursday decided to pass a resolution in the Assembly, requesting the Center to conduct the General Census 2021 of the Backward Classes (BCs) caste census in the state.

He said that the cabinet headed by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took several important decisions including caste census, allowing online ticketing platform and creation of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) Welfare Department.

“The last census was in 1931 before independence. Since then, no BC census was conducted. The (resolution) step is to ensure that BCs get their fair share and welfare. The resolution will be passed in the assembly and sent The cabinet has empowered the BC Welfare Minister of Andhra Pradesh to move an appropriate resolution in the House.

The minister said that the state government has set a target to fill 41,000 vacancies in the medical, health department and 26,917 posts have been filled in the last two and a half years and the remaining posts will be filled up soon.

He said that the cabinet has given permission to amend the Cinematography Act 1965 and allow online ticketing platform to be managed by AP State Film, Television and Theater Development Corporation for issue of cinema tickets.

The Minister said that the Cabinet has approved the formation of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) Welfare Department and also approved the formation of Jain Welfare Corporation and Sikh Welfare Corporation to implement the schemes for the poor people of upper caste. .

He said the cabinet has approved the extension of the ban on Maoists and other similar organizations for one more year.
