Andhra Pradesh: Action plan to reduce the incidence of HIV

Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) has drawn up an action plan to control HIV by spreading awareness among the public.

APSACS Project Director Naveen Kumar said in a release on Sunday that several measures would be taken as per the action plan. He said that the services of ANMs and women police would be utilized in ward and village secretariats and they would be trained accordingly.

He said that an Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) drug center would be made available within every 50 km radius.

Shri Naveen Kumar said that educational institutions like Andhra University, Sri Venkateswara Vishwavidyalaya, Acharya Nagarjuna University and others will conduct awareness campaigns and toll free number 1097 for information and advice related to HIV AIDS and measures to avoid getting infected. will be widely publicized.

He said that the use of condoms and their availability would be studied in collaboration with the Indian School of Business.

He said that all community based organisations, representatives of fishermen’s associations, dhaba hotels, truck drivers and others would be sensitized.
