Andhra Pradesh: Forest officials keeping a close watch on tiger movements

The forest department is continuously monitoring the movement of the tiger, which was last seen in the forest area between Sabbavaram and Venkannapalem Junction.

According to officials, the tiger had allegedly killed a cow on Tuesday night and a goat in the past few days.

talking to Hindu, Chief Conservator of Forests P. Rammohan Rao said a special committee had been formed and they were hoping that the tiger would return to its prey.

“We are monitoring the killing very carefully, one is to trap the tiger and the other is to see that people do not harm it by spoiling the killing or taking some unreasonable step,” he said.

He said that in the last few days the tiger had become a bit disoriented and was trying to go back to its origin.

“From Vizianagaram area, it went through Narsipatnam to East Godavari region. Now, it is going back the same way,” he said.

The department constituted a special committee under the chairmanship of DFO Anant Shankar and deputed about five camera traps and two cages.

According to Mr. Anant Shankar, drones are also being used to track the tiger. “We are also using infrared and night vision cameras,” he said.

Anticipating that the tiger may return to its prey on Wednesday night, the department has deployed a team to chemically stabilize the animal.
