Andhra Pradesh: Freedom fighter Birsa Munda remembered

As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations at the Dravidian University, a program was organized to mark Bhagwan Birsa Munda Janajiya Gaurav Divas at Ameno Bhavan on the campus on Tuesday.

Dravidian University Vice-Chancellor Tummala Ramakrishna, who inaugurated the function, stressed the need for the youth to know about the freedom struggle to understand the value of freedom.

“Independence did not come easily to us. In the ceaseless struggle, many leaders lost their lives. Birsa Munda of Jharkhand, who led the freedom movement in the late 19th century, fought for the rights of forest dwellers.

Arvind Garu of the Department of History said: “As a mark of respect for the tribal warrior, a portrait of him was placed in the Central Hall of the Indian Parliament. Birsa was also given due respect by naming the Ranchi airport after him.

Teaching faculty, non-teaching staff, students and research scholars from various departments participated in the event.
