Anil Antony, son of veteran Congress leader AK Antony, has joined the BJP.

Anil Antony, son of veteran Congress leader and former Union minister AK Antony, on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Union ministers Piyush Goyal and V Muraleedharan.

Anil Antony resigned from all Congress posts following differences with the party over his tweets against the controversial BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots – “India: The Modi Question”.

Anil Antony has announced his resignation from his posts in KPCC Digital Media and AICC Social Media and Digital Communications Cell through a tweet. In his tweet, he mentioned receiving “intolerable calls” urging him to retract his tweet against a documentary, as well as the “hate and abuse” he faced on Facebook over the same issue, which led him to Had to resign.

“I have resigned from my roles at @incindia@INCKerala. Intolerable calls to retract a tweet by those fighting for freedom of speech. I refused. By those supporting the trek to promote love Facebook wall of hate/abuse! Hypocrisy is your name.” Life moves on. Below is the revised resignation letter,” Anil Antony tweeted.

In his resignation letter, Anil Antony said, “In view of yesterday’s events, I believe it would be appropriate for me to step down from all my roles in the Congress – as Convenor of KPCC Digital Media and as National Co-Coordinator. AICC Social Media and Digital Communications Cell.”
