Anil Deshmukh’s son to appear before ED today in money laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Hrishikesh, son of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, for questioning in an alleged money laundering case.

The agency said that Rishikesh has to appear before the ED today.

Earlier this week, Deshmukh was arrested in connection with the extortion and money laundering charges leveled against him by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.

Singh accuses Anil Deshmukh of asking sacked assistant inspector Sachin Waje to collect 100 crores every month from hotels and bars in Mumbai.

Following his arrest, a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Mumbai sent him to four-day ED custody till November 6.

The court, however, allowed the application for food and medicines from Anil Deshmukh’s house during ED’s custody. His lawyers will also be allowed to be present during the interrogation as per the court order.

On Thursday, the ED took Deshmukh for a routine medical examination.

Deshmukh’s lawyer Inderpal Singh said, “As per the order of the court, I am here to appear during the interrogation of Anil Deshmukh. He was medically examined, he is fine.”

The federal probe agency will record Deshmukh’s statement under the PMLA in connection with the criminal investigation being conducted by it in the alleged case. 100 crore bribe-cum-extortion racket in Maharashtra Police Establishment.
