Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik On Thursday, he conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in the state and announced immediate assistance to the people for 15 days. Chief Minister took stock of the situation in some of the most affected areas of the district khurdaPuri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said latest Expressed concern over large areas being submerged. The floods in the Mahanadi basin have affected over 5 lakh people living in over 1,700 villages in 10 districts, while over 2.2 lakh people are stranded. It also affected more than 35,000 hectares of croplands and damaged more than 2,500 homes.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure all assistance like cooked food and other essentials, health services and clean drinking water to the people. He also directed the officials to expand facilities for animals in the affected areas. Announcing the relief assistance, Naveen said that 15 days relief would be provided to the affected people in the most affected districts. Similarly, people in flood affected villages in districts like SambalpurBargarh, Sonpur, Boudh and Anguli Seven days relief will be given.
Though the details of relief to be given to the affected people have not been given, official sources said that the assistance (both in cash and kind) will be given as per the relief code. An official said district collectors are authorized to take calls based on the ground situation.
Naveen also directed the officials to assess the damage within seven days and provide assistance for crop loss and house damage within the next 15 days. Reviewing the preparedness to deal with the floods, the Chief Minister had directed people to shift people from vulnerable areas to ensure no casualties and prevent loss of life and property.
