Anupam Tripathi aka Ali Abdul of Squid Game says he ‘never expected this kind of response’

Actor Anupam Tripathi has gone viral on social media after the immense success of Netflix Korea series Squid Game. The Indian-origin artist has been searched and congratulated by millions after his character Ali Abdul or Player No. 199 became one of the major highlights of the show.

Anupam shared how his Instagram followers grew from 3000 to 3 million after the launch of the show on September 17, with people sharing heartfelt messages about his performance and the show.

“Till September 17, I knew about 3000 people. A few hours after the show went live, I started getting messages and it still hasn’t stopped. It was amazing to see my Instagram followers grow from 50,000 to 1 million to 1.5 million and so on. I never expected this kind of reaction and I am very happy that it happened. People were asking about Ali, first about my character and then about me.”

Anupam is living, studying and working in Korea for the last 11 years. He was born and raised in New Delhi, where his mother still lives. When asked how he was able to tell her about his big success and Anupam said, “She is very sweet. I told him that his son is now being asked from all over the world. She was very happy for me and congratulated me. He also said, ‘Don’t fly too much. Keeping feet on the ground is the humility and the kind of upbringing he has given me and I am very grateful to him. All my relatives and people I know are very happy about the show and they only have good things to say.”
