Appreciating the “loyal audience” of the daily soap, actor Sudhanshu Pandey recently spoke about the immense popularity he has gained through his latest and ongoing project. Sudhanshu is currently seen in Anupama as Vanraj Shah. Produced by Rajan Shahi, the show is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. Sudhanshu said that the popularity he has gained through the show is unimaginable. In an interview with Outlook, he said, “After so long, having been a part of a show like Anupama, I realized how incredibly popular television can make you.” He added, “The stardom and fame that I have got from this show, I had never imagined before.”
Sudhanshu revealed that he was offered several roles in television, which he declined “due to various reasons”. But when Rajan came to Sudhanshu with Anupama’s story, he immediately said yes to the role that was being offered to him. “My character was absolutely brilliant and didn’t require much convincing to me. The show had a great storyline,” he said.
Sudhanshu is working in the industry for more than two decades now. He has “a vast body of work” behind him, which includes about 48 feature films. A television show was a new challenge for Sudhanshu, for which the actor was mentored by Rajan. Sudhanshu said, “He mentally prepared me for a long time before I got into this scenario of this daily show as it is a completely different world for me.”
Talking about the changing paradigm in television, Sudhanshu said that television shows are no longer just for women, but are targeted at a larger audience. He believes that entertainment “is equally for men as well as for women.” “It is targeted at the middle class which is the biggest class where we all belong. That’s where popularity comes, money comes from there and advertising comes from there.”
Anupama premiered on Star Plus on July 13, 2020 and the daily soap gained traction among the audience. The cast includes Rupali Ganguly, Gaurav Khanna, Arvind Vaidya and Savita Prabhune.
