Entrepreneur Karnesh Sharma on Tuesday announced the launch of Clean OTT, billed as “the world’s only female-oriented original content streaming platform”. Sharma is known for supporting critically acclaimed films such as “NH10”, “Pari” – both starring Sister Anushka Sharma, Netflix’s “Bulbul” and the Amazon Prime Video series “Paatal Lok”, under their banner Clean Slate Films. The content of the upcoming platform, which will be launched next year, will include international and regional projects in formats such as films, web series and docu-series.

According to a press release, Sharma’s mission with Swachh OTT is twofold – to curate meaningful, complex storylines led by female characters, move away from the ‘male gaze’ norm that often dominates the casting and screenplay, and women To create a permanent platform for professionals. To pursue her career in the entertainment industry, defying the age barriers.

Patriarchy has controlled storytelling for centuries, and as a man, Sharma said he has always felt that men play an equal role in power, narrative and changing dialogue.

“When women’s voices are heard it teaches us new perspectives, which are equally engaging and interesting as a viewer and a filmmaker.

It’s stereotypical when I hear people say that women’s stories are just about harassment or fall into the romantic comedy genre.
The female first content is indeed extremely exciting and eclectic,” the founder of Clean OTT said in a statement.

According to Sharma, 50 percent of the viewership in India is women and yet most of the content is male-centric or represents women in secondary fashion.

“We are confident that clean OTT stories will be loved by all as we provide a platform free from bias.
It will give women a voice that can be enjoyed by any demographic around the world and a path to career advancement for those who are a part of our production.”

Swachh OTT will be home to works originally curated and produced by original production banners and pre-selected projects by other producers from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal that complement the platform’s messaging framework.

The release further added that the library will showcase the credentials of an experienced team of directors, screenwriters, actors and producers associated with Clean Slate Films, while also nurturing budding talent.

The OTT platform will be powered by an annual subscription SVOD (subscription video-on-demand) model that will launch in India in the first quarter of 2023, before expanding to markets such as the UK, USA, Canada and UAE.

Membership price is yet to be announced.

Recently, Sharma announced a USD 54 million content deal with Amazon Prime Video and Netflix for his production company.
