Apollo Tires launches EV-specific tires: What sets them apart from your regular car tires – Times of India

tire manufacturing giant Apollo Tires launched its new range of EV-specific tyres for the Indian market. Apollo Empire The range of tires will cater to the passenger vehicle segment and Apollo WAV The range has been developed for electric two-wheelers. The Emperion range of tires has also received a 5 star rating by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for fuel economy.
The Amperion range of EV-specific tires offers minimal rolling resistance, low noise, an electric tread pattern design and aerodynamic sidewalls. It will cater to the hatchback, compact SUV and sedan segments in India such as Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona and other upcoming electric vehicles.

Apollo Emperion and WAV EV-Specific Tires

The 2-wheeler focused WAV range features a special design, low rolling resistance, light weight and high traction to counteract the starting torque produced by the electric motor. These will be suitable for most high-performance electric scooters available in India, such as the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450X. Apollo Tires plans to develop EV-specific tires for motorcycles in the next phase, considering the extremely small number of products on sale in this category at present.
The company has also invented state-of-the-art technologies to manufacture these EV-specific tyres. ‘AQUT TECH’ (Apollo Quiet Tire Technology) helped develop the tire cavity, pattern and construction to reduce noise. ‘BEST TECH’ (Battery Energy Saver Technology), offers ultra low RR technology package which helps in increasing the battery range of electric vehicle. As a result, the Apollo Emperion design is inspired by the jellyfish, the most energy efficient and silent creature, and the design for the Apollo WAV is inspired by the digital circuit board design.
