Apple iPhone and Apple Watch will get next-gen 3D Touch, patent filing shows: Here’s how it will work

The Cupertino giant Apple brought the 3D Touch feature with the iPhone 6S. This feature was a huge hit among the users, but later the company discontinued it and kept 3D Touch only for the trackpad on its MacBook laptops. Now, Apple is said to be bringing back 3D Touch on the Apple Watch, iPhone, and MacBooks. According to a recent report, Apple has acquired a patent for the next-generation force-pressure sensors. Earlier this year, there were reports that Apple may replace the crown on the Apple Watch with a new optical sensor. It is also mentioned in the patent as it shows that the Force sensors are designed for small form factor devices such as Apple Watch and Apple AirPods.

The patent application also contains an image that shows where Apple plans to put the sensor on the Apple Watch. As per the report, these “smart bands” will be able to monitor blood pressure and even pulse wave velocity.
