new Delhi Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday announced on microblogging site Twitter that buses and good carriers will get dedicated lanes in the national capital from April 1.

It will be imposed on 15 selected roads and those found violating strict lane discipline Delhi Government is going to impose, will have to pay a fine of up to 10,000. Convicted drivers can also be jailed for six months.

The notice further mentions that the traffic police, transport department shall earmark dedicated lanes to be used only by buses and goods carriers from 8 am to 10 pm.

Other vehicles may be allowed to ply on these dedicated lanes for the remaining time. Buses and freight vehiclesHowever, round the clock will stick to its dedicated marked lanes, it said.

The official statement shared by Gehlot said that vehicles found running on the other lane would be liable for prosecution under section 192-A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which prescribes fine 10,000, and imprisonment of up to six months. They will also be charged under the Delhi Maintenance and Management of Parking Place Rules, 2019.

In the first phase, enforcement drive will be carried out on 15 out of the total 46 corridors selected under the initiative.

These include Anuvrat Marg T-Point to Pul Prahladpur T-Point, Ashram Chowk to Badarpur Border, Janakpuri to Madhuban Chowk, Moti Nagar to Dwarka Mor, Britannia Chowk to Dhaula Quan, Kashmere Gate ISBT to Apsara Border, Mehrauli-Badarpur road section. Is. Signature Bridge-Bhopura Border, Jahangirpuri Metro Station-Kashmere Gate ISBT and ITO-Ambedkar Nagar etc.

The Transport Department has issued an advisory to Delhi Transport Corporation and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Limited to make their drivers aware of the same.

The Public Works Department has been directed to mark the corridors properly by putting up warning signs and boards at appropriate places.

If a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV), such as a car is found parked or unattended in a marked bus lane and its owner or driver refuses to vacate it, the vehicle will be pulled over and the driver will have to bear the towing fee. In addition to the fine, it said.

To enforce lane discipline, the transport department will deploy two teams in two shifts. Cranes will also be deployed to capture and remove vehicles obstructing bus lanes. The video or photographs of the obstructing vehicles would be taken as evidence, the statement said.
