Army dog, Axl killed in encounter with terrorists in Kashmir

J&K Baramulla encounter: Alex died on the spot, officials said.

Baramulla:

Sniper dog Axel was killed in a fierce encounter today after security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Police gave this information. One terrorist was killed and three security forces personnel were injured during the encounter.

“When the terrorists opened fire on Axl, two army sniffer dogs fitted with bodycams were sent inside to trace the whereabouts of the terrorists,” a police officer told NDTV.

The encounter broke out in Wanigam village this morning after the police and the army launched a joint operation based on information about the presence of at least three terrorists, including a Pakistani national, in the area.

Two army dogs – Bajaj and Axel – were sent inside the target house wearing body cams to keep an eye on the movements of the terrorists. As a fierce gun battle ensues between the security forces and the terrorists, Alex was hit by three bullets by the hiding terrorists.

Officials said Alex died on the spot.

Amid heavy exchange of fire, the two terrorists managed to escape, sources told NDTV.
